What is an extraction?
When you come in with pain on or around a tooth, or when your tooth has broken, we will conduct a comprehensive exam with X-rays to understand what is causing your pain. If one or more teeth have been damaged by decay, we may suggest repairing the tooth will a filling or root canal. If all other options are not possible to save the tooth, we will recommend an extraction, or a pulling of teeth.
An extraction is when your dentist pulls your tooth. During the procedure, we will make sure you are comfortable and thoroughly numb, by providing a local anesthetic. We will then loosen the tooth with an instrument called an elevator. You will feel some slight pressure during the procedure, which is completely normal. After the procedure is completed, you will receive a list of instructions on how to take care of your mouth where we pulled your tooth.
